"The Biology of Business 4: Putting It All Together!"
In life and in business, three key elements run through everything we are trying to accomplish. Emotions are the first and last part of whatever choices we make. Every idea and action that we put into place is based on a positive emotion that will be found during, or at the end of a goal that’s realized. The logistics are the logical steps we take to achieve this happy end. Finances are a major part of this equation, because this “means” allows us to keep moving ahead with the mission we had in mind. So, to achieve any goal, these three facets must be operating together so we can continue to move ahead, without any major issues that will only block our way forward.
Before we can address any specific issues you have, we need to take a step back to a place when your business was operating without any major problems, so that we can see where things might have veered off track. Let’s start at the beginning…
When a business is first up and running, all of these three categories are working together so that we can remain steadily in flight. Employees at the top and bottom are motivated, and the logistics and the materials needed to keep the business running are in place. With these two areas covered, the ability to service customers happily is a given. A positive completed sales cycle allows us to refresh our financial interests, so that we can keep on repeating the same process. If done repeatedly, the business only continues to grow. As it does, as long as the winning formula is in place and maintained, this positive cycle of energy becomes bigger as it gathers momentum. Here, the business has a very important decision to make. It can choose to stay the size it is now, or it can branch out further. Either way, as long as the business continues to move itself ahead in a positive way, the life of the business is rarely an issue.
Over time as operations continue, it’s normal to get off track from where we first started out. This happens to the best of us in life, and in business. We can try our best to regain equilibrium by working harder to correct certain situations in the short-term, or we can ride them out hoping they will change somehow. I have another approach that happens to work to fix these areas without having to address every single issue; since they all arise from many different factors that would be very difficult to analyze and follow as a whole.
To save time (since we only have so much space), we can take a bird’s eye view at these areas to see if anything positive is missing, so that we can put those key ingredients back together – just as they were in the beginning. Usually, from this point of view, small problems that occur regularly – everywhere, will be solved naturally. In other words, any symptoms you might have come from a lack in just one or all three of these areas, as they are all influencing each other. We’ll examine them one by one, so you’ll be able to figure out the specifics that your business might need to regain its healthy momentum.
This exercise is nothing more than revisiting what was once in place. If something I say strikes a chord, just observe that (regardless of the reason), and simply see what you can do now to put positive energy back into the area that needs it. When something positive is needed to change an outcome, all that we really need is an understanding of why it's so important to us. Usually, this is all that’s necessary to begin taking a successful step. When we get off track for whatever reason, we only need to remember why we are doing something to find our way back. With that, we can follow the steps we’ve discovered that will lead us to where we really wanted to be. This is exactly what we are doing when something is working out, so we are just getting back on that path again.
To dive in, let’s take a look at the three main parts of your business once again: Emotions, Logistics and Finances. Just looking at the words will reveal to you an area that you need to focus on, as your eyes will actually settle and stay – right there! So, can you see how these areas are working together yet, or have you at least identified an area that needs your attention? A hint to help you find a workable solution long-term is to remember that these parts all work in a continuous loop – during every part of a successful sales transaction – for the employees and the customers. They both want to feel good about what they are doing during the encounter. Whatever happens here repeatedly, goes directly back into the business as a whole. If you fully grasp what’s needed in just one transaction to succeed, and you can provide those means regularly, then most of your future problems will begin and end there…Believe it or not!
To assure that a transaction happens successfully from now on, put your energy and any discussions on the positive reasons why something works or is needed, and how we can help each other achieve that end. As long as the steps are small and easy to understand, we are fulfilling two key areas at once. Since our tone is positive, and we are building up energy while we are co-operating our actions, this fulfills the emotional and logistical sides of our business wheel.
As we move ahead highlighting our progress, and seeing what other little adjustments we can make along the way, we rediscover the joy in working together. This directly impacts our motivation to continue along, naturally. In essence, we are learning how to take some of our successful steps again, while noticing how co-operation is taking us to where we really wanted to be. So, a problem is really nothing more than retracing our way back to where we were happily, with a little more understanding of how we arrive there. This process doesn’t need to be negative, at all. In fact, this more positive approach can be used to see more of what’s already working, and to feel better about it, as well!
In this way, our future steps become even more productive than they were in the beginning. Enter a happy, satisfied customer into this equation, and the three major areas are now running smoother and stronger, than ever before. If we get off track, just notice it and take it lightly. Retrace the steps to see what was needed. Sometimes, it’s a simple glitch in the process before and after a given step that causes the issue. If this happens regularly, just bring it up in a straightforward and positive way, and take a look at the process itself, so that we can address and fix the problem together. This emotional and logistical positive reinforcement with each other allows the bonds between us and what we are doing to solidify into real, tangible results. Not only does this dynamic help to keep operations moving along easily, it also offers us some breathing room. If something a bit more serious occurs we can handle it effectively, without losing control of our major daily operations.
As far as the financial piece is concerned, as long as we can get back to operations running in a more positive and meaningful way every day, combined with logistics that work (most of the time!), then our financial gains will automatically grow – just like they did in the beginning.
So, now is the time to take a look at how our positive emotions are kept in place with mutual respect and encouragement, followed by logistics that work to keep our spirits up – as these two places are connected. The final goal is to feel that the money coming in at the end of the day is truly – our icing on the cake! In time, as we look back on a successful day, week or year, we can finally realize that we didn’t have to sacrifice any one of these areas to make our business work; as they were all working together to build up and expand what we have.
During the entire process of doing business, we are only getting back to the original idea we had in mind when we first started out, but with a greater understanding of how the process works. Even when we make changes to enhance what we have, this stays together by taking it one positive experience at a time…By recognizing and appreciating this pivotal step, and by working together whenever we faultier a bit to get us back on track. The highest operations of any business is to simply follow this formula so that conditions on the ground can continue to thrive, and produce the profits we were looking for – emotionally, logistically and financially. In the end, that’s all we're doing together every day to make our business and each other grow to our highest peak. So, where can we begin?
The next positive moment that we create in our business together and in our lives, no matter where we happen to be, is only the beginning of many more to come. It's the solid foundation of all that we set out to do. If you really want to know if your business is working – the results will show themselves over time, in how long people are able to maintain their positive disposition on any given day. This means that whatever we are doing together – is working. Everything we have is only here, so that we can build on and maintain our happier emotions, including our bottom line. Once you understand and follow this single positive thread that runs through every part of your business – from start to finish, the sky truly is – your only limit!
