Set Sail on a Few Profit Limit-Bending Ideas...
For one of my last blogs, I wanted to make this one as personal as I could. Business and technical writing is extremely enjoyable to me; but sometimes just dealing with numbers or abstract ideas can become a bit flat. So, let’s raise the sails up a little, shall we?
Even though I’ve written close to 200+ pages in blog articles on business, there are still some people (even those very close to me) that have no idea – what I do, or what makes me different than any other consultant. ANY? (Yup.)
So, outside of the title “business consultant” what IS IT exactly…That I do?
Like other consultants, I help you draw a circle around your business. Here – it is. It’s everything you’ve got. Now, within anyone’s circle there’s naturally going to be a mix of two different things…Things that will help or hinder financial growth – and, how you feel about it.
Since everything we’re doing in business comes down to how much or how little…How much is this going to cost me, or how much am I going to gain or lose from doing...
That’s the cove where I hang-out my particular skill. What’s so unique about it?
So, really BIG businesses usually collaborate with consultants they already feel comfortable with, or that have a well-known reputation. Sounds good, because there’s already a relationship established; which – makes you feel more comfortable. And, from that comfortable space – you’re trying to stretch – what you’ve got. It’s helpful to shuffle a few things around – and even in a way that produces some results. What’s wrong – with that? Nothing except…
You’re just tidying up what’s already there – to make it work a little better for you.
How does that differ – from what I do?
Well, I do that, too…But there’s a subtle difference and a place that I haven’t heard of any other consultants traveling to – thus far. So, what waters are we charting? The ones out past – where you are now. Like Columbus, we (hypothetically) sail out past your current limits – inside and out…And together, we take a good look at where you could go – if you really wanted to grow your circle, as big as you say you wanted it to be.
Isn’t that what every consultant does?
No. Why?
Because other consultants know a ton about “talking business” or talking about big numbers…I can hang “there” too. I’m talking about the limits past – what you currently know of, or are comfortable with. Most people leave these places, alone. (Sounds scary – right?)
Like the ocean, other than a few flash storms that could come up or some unseen reefs in the shallows (we’re on dry land by the way), I’ve spent 30 years – looking at the same equation that has its limitations: Financially, logistically, and emotionally…
Externally, we can talk about anything that’s present. (That’s what most consultants do.) Internally – is where those BIG firms come up short. Why? It has nothing to do with reputation, or even “how big” your deals and those numbers might have been…Internally and externally, they’re only going to take you – to their current limits. And that’s where the trip ends…A little further out – past where you are now. And, on top of that, it will cost you a lot of money to boot.
So, try sailing on a different boat for a little while…Say – just for an hour: For Free.
Together, in the 1st 15 minutes (5 if you want), I’ll put a finger on exactly where your current limits are – internally and externally…And, from there, we could rest and drop an anchor. Or, we can sail – right past them.
This way, you can see for yourself that the perspective you needed to grow your business much bigger than it is now, was always – right there. You just needed the right guide to help you see that. Someone who’s not afraid to sail out – much further past those Jetties, than anyone else.
And, why is that?
Because I’ve already sailed out way past our “current” limitations or those Jetties – myself. To come up with a solution, I had to get past what's already here. So, like a very experienced Sea Captain, I already know what any limit looks, sounds, and feels like: Emotionally, logistically, and financially…Not just for you, but for others, too.
And, if I only have ONE BIG IDEA that’s fueling my boat…I had no other choice, but to make sure that it worked – long before I become a consultant. So, it's simple. The idea either works or it doesn’t…To grow more of what you have.
