The Three "Magical Ingredients" That Make Any Deal Successful...

While there are many ways of approaching business – and how we “do that” successfully, I’ve noticed that all of these different approaches eventually boil down to three magical ingredients…

Like any good recipe (for it to work), the ingredients need to complement each other, so that they can combine into something that will be enjoyable for us! Regardless of the type of deal or the people involved, we all need or desire the same things, so that “our deal” turns out as well as it possibly can. To me, those three ingredients are: our emotions, the logistics, and our financial outcome. Specifics aside (as these are tailor-made for every situation), if these three bases are covered, the positive outcome we were looking for – will be right there with us.

Sometimes, we might overlook these three simple areas (except for the last one perhaps), but like our recipe’s ingredients, each aspect is adding up to what our final results will be. So, let's examine them...

Our Emotions:

Feeling good – is the root “why” behind anything we do. So, this already puts “us” on the same page, even before our meeting begins. We just want to enjoy our time together, right? So, we both desire the same thing. As long as we bring that attitude into where we are – step one is complete! Even though everyone usually has a mixture of different feelings when meeting someone new, we’re both looking for the same positive outcome here. Now that we recognize this, let's move onto what helps to keep those enjoyable moments in place…

The Logistics:

To create something, we’ll both have to take a few steps to make our outcome happen. Obviously, some deals are very complicated, and others are quite simple. As long as each side has a little understanding of what’s needed on both sides to make things go smooth, then – you’re already meeting in the middle here, too. Focusing on the strengths of what’s there first, will easily give us confidence to explore some areas that might need a little clarification. Regardless of the specifics, we both want to feel that we understand what our role is, and what we can do to make the desired outcome a success. Having logistics that make sense to both sides, allows us to take our steps successfully, which naturally makes us feel even more comfortable. So, making the steps simple or easier to complete (even if the deal is complicated), will simply allow us to have a much more enjoyable experience. It’s important to remember that asking and answering questions is not to be critical. It's only for a greater understanding, so that each one of us can fulfill our role in making the positive outcome happen!

The Bottom Line:

Now that we’ve made it this far, we can keep the most mouth-watering part of the deal going in the same positive direction. Here, just like the steps before, each side needs to understand that we both want to feel great – about the financial part of our deal. (So, we’re really on the same page here, too.) Rather than going back and forth endlessly, like trying to buy a new car (whew), come to the meeting with a few different price points that you’ll be very happy about for you – and for them. Sometimes, of course, money can be an issue. But if the deal looks solid and you’re getting your money’s worth – make this part of the deal into something that puts the icing on the cake – instead of deflating it!

If the deal wasn’t a good option for either one of you, you probably wouldn’t have made it this far. So, by having a better understanding of what’s needed for the person across from you – and yourself, from here – you can really give yourselves something to smile about! My personal philosophy is to always give as much value, as I can. That way, the other side feels great about what they’re getting, and I also receive what I need for myself, too. When the option IS there – to make everyone feel like they’ve landed on something wonderful – what’s not to like, about doing business? From there, we can wrap up the meeting in the best way possible, and we set the stage for a great relationship down the road if we desire that, as well.

When these three "magical ingredients” are considered – and offered, there’s nothing in the way of what we wanted to feel good about, both now and later on…

If anything, our deals will not only become much more productive, but this will give us a reputation as someone you'd want to do business with. By making it this way together now, we’ve secured our success in the future, as well. Through this mutually beneficial and enjoyable experience, it means that we can keep our business growing, so we'll see those gains happening everywhere, for as long as we desire that.

With a highly favorable outcome achieved for both of us – the winning recipe – is now complete: Bon Appetite’!
