The World is Yours: Are There Really Any Limits to What We Can Accomplish?
When we’ve become well established as a world leading business in a particular field, wanting to grow as big as possible in every way is probably something we think about quite often. And there are many ways to approach what this means to us. For example, does this mean that we have the largest number of stores, the greatest reputation for what we carry, something special that’s exclusive to us, are we numbers driven, or – all of the above?
Regardless of where our motivation lands with the choices we have available, as a consultant, the absolute favorite part of my role is helping businesses to see past their current boundaries. Even the biggest and most influential companies in the world, could still use something to become even better than they are, right now. And this isn’t necessarily due to neglect or even a modeling flaw. In time as we grow, our ideas about what we have and where we are simply change with us. So, my first priority is getting a schematic or outline of where a particular business – is. Then, the next step is figuring out where that company would like to stretch their boundaries. You might know about these two areas well already; but often, the limits we set have nothing to do with business, at all. Limits, only come from – being inside of yourself. Meaning, everyone can see the world, from the inside out – only so far, before we need another set of eyes to fill-in some of those gaps. And that isn’t a flaw. Any field of study on this planet is built by a group of individuals, who collectively, can see many more angles on a particular point of view.
After sharing what they observe, this data turns into beliefs that are held as the way things are now. And, like growing anything, the truths we find need to be a guideline so that we can successfully carry out our mission. However, in time, those ideas also need to be revisited…To not only make them work better, but so that we can get excited again about what we’re doing! Even the ideas that are working out fabulously, in time, can become routine. And that’s when our actions, eventually become more of a pain than the pleasure we used to have in carrying them out…
My role as a consultant is to take a snapshot of where everything is now – including how you feel about your business, and carefully create a little more space, so that something new can develop and grow what's there. Sometimes, this creates a new product or service, sometimes it’s strictly about logistics, or it could be about how well the relationships are between your employees or departments. (Or, all of the above!) To me, it doesn’t matter what the area of focus is, because all I’m helping you do is identify – exactly what you want, and the easiest route to that happier ending. Can the higher-ups that you have now, help you to accomplish this, as well? Sure. That’s one of the reasons why they’re there. But sometimes, just like developing our ideas, when a lot of people are adopting the same mind-set, the ability and the opportunity to fully see something that's beneficial can become a little more difficult, as well.
So, what makes my approach different than most consultants, even if they’re highly successful or well-established? Two particular reasons that are unique to who I am…
The first one is that I don’t have any (imagined) limits on what I think you can achieve with the right mind-set, and the resources in place. And I mean exactly that. I think that – you can achieve whatever you want to do, easily – as long as you have what’s in place to accomplish that goal. The second is my specific background. Over the past 30 years, I’ve studied every kind of positive interaction that we are currently aware of: From physics, to chemistry, biology, our emotions, personal relationships, to how groups of people relate and interact together, to how we layout and manage the steps we’re taking, to how outside people perceive us, how we relate to our environment, to how this effects even larger circles of people outside of us, and finally, how all of this – is coming back to us, as well. So, I understand cause and effect from more than just a few different angles. At first, this wide-net approach might sound a little intimidating, but to make you feel more comfortable, I’ll fill you in on a little relationship shortcut to make this whole process much easier to understand how I compute all of that information, quite easily…
All relationships in life, and even in business – are only following two specific steps, repeatedly…From where we are now – to where something or someone else is – and back. That’s it. That's the pattern or loop that’s running everywhere – we are. Once you understand what's happening between those two places, it's much easier to figure out what your next step should be, so that moving forward isn't really an issue, at all. From here, it just becomes a matter of actually taking that step.
Leaving profit numbers aside for a moment (because everything you do is only adding up to them), every step that you take for yourself to go straight towards your goal – if it negatively impacts what’s in front of you, then you are going to have a problem there. Not just for you – but for what’s in front of you, as well. (Now, you've created two problems.) And here is where the struggle or effort comes in. It gets much harder to move ahead here – because we’ve become entangled with what’s there; instead of working with and moving beyond those concerns. And, in my experience, most of those "concerns" happen to be other people directly located in our business, who are also responsible for helping us achieve our goal.
Collectively, people haven’t quite made the connection (yet) about how to take care of these two places successfully, so there really isn’t a problem, at all…Between what we wanted for ourselves and our business, and what we have to extend – to get there. However, since I study positive relationships, that’s where I’m located: Right at that pivot point. So, my role is to make a scenario possible where everyone is working towards the same goal – without anything getting in the way of that end, and without losing anything important for yourself in the process.
You could say that once I show you how to satisfy what you really want, and what others really need to help you get there – you’ll be well on your way towards making your new vision come true, and making your current operations run, as well as they possibly can. In the end, it doesn’t really take that much math to figure this equation out; but having someone who understands exactly where those “odds” are coming from, can certainly make all of your goals much easier to reach. That's exactly what I know how to do, because I’m literally not “caught-up” in what’s already there. So, I’m not limited by what you have in place. And the positive dynamic principles that work for a very small business or the largest ones in the world are still the same; they just happen to involve more people and more money...But tie these two ends together successfully now, and up, up and away you’ll go…Straight towards your goal.
Sometimes, for the world to be yours again, it can really be – as simple as that!
