All Aboard?!
All Aboard?!

Since the blogs for this website are now finally complete (unless someone asks me to write one specifically for their issue), I thought it would be fitting to let you know what's in the works on my end, anyway...It's my second book on Business that covers: Emotions, Logistics, Relationships and Profits...And how they are all linked directly together to create the exact results we desired to be a part of. The setting of the book takes place in a Retail environment from opening till close of a day...From everyone's perspective. However, the principles are universal and will work to enhance any platform. The following is a chapter in progress. I hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 7: Reverse Engineering your Logistics. (Draft Edit.)

Everyone involved with business knows what the word logistics means…It’s the art and science of moving one or a bunch of objects – from here to there, successfully. And there’s a financial piece of this that includes time, organization, packing, shipping costs, etc. What about the emotional part of this equation? There’s usually more than 6 parts to this category that bump right into everything else down the line. It's often ignored; but it’s the most important part of the whole equation – and by the end of this chapter, you’ll see why.

The emotional factor involves everyone (before and after) who will be affected by what happens during that timely delivery – to the successful unloading and arrangement of it in the store, to the various employees on the floor, down to the customers, back to the managers lower and upper, back to the CEO, as well as the distributers of the product, and even the ones who supply the raw materials for it. Then, this direct chain of energy and movement and how we feel about it, reaches all of other people in their businesses, as well. That’s plenty far back enough (for now) to see how many people are being directly affected – by a single product being there safely, and on time.

Which part of this equation (to you) is the most important part of the successful delivery of the item and the sale of it?

I left a little space, so you could put your answer here:

______________________________________________________________________________

Believe it or not, whatever answer you came up with, if it had to do with the product, the logistics, the price or the sale, you’re not digging quite far back enough to see where the root of the problem or the solution to your logistics process is. What is it? (Okay, so maybe on the surface, this was a bit of a trick question…But, I’ll explain my reason for it, and you’ll be surprised by my logic…It’s the heart of logistics, right?!) Anyhow, let’s reverse engineer this chain to answer the question. After all is said and done, delivered and sold…What comes before and right after – the bottom line?

How we feel – about it: Our Emotions.

So, to see just how well a delivery “paid off” let’s look at it from this perspective…

If everyone along the way – was happy about the final outcome…It means every step along the way – went well and as planned, or as close to that as possible. (That's good, right?)

In a loop – of logistics from here to there…Do you know why the emotional part is the bookends of what we’ve got?

Everyone – does everything – to feel good about it: Before, during and after a step is made. So, that’s how you (really) know – what you’ve got is working and will continue to work, as far as goods and services go. If everyone along the chain of events – felt good – in that one turn-around, then – everyone did their “job” on the way – there. And what does that energy – do? It gives everyone (and us) the internal confidence and a boost to put that juice – right back into the whole process, again…To feel even better the next time through, or to do an even better job...Which brings in a return customer on each end, which equals more revenue…Which – all comes back around to how “good” you’re going to feel, about it...To then, repeat the same cycle.

Can you see what’s really building itself “up” here? Energy – and the movement of it; produces money, then that goes back to how we feel about both ends coming together, successfully. Pull the feelings out of the equation…And the money – goes right after it. Why?

Your feelings are “there” to let you and everyone else know what’s working, what isn’t – and why. Every “gripe” in the chain – is giving you needed feedback…Not for blame; but to know where the fork in the road IS – in regards to success. 90% of people don’t complain because – they want to be upset. Upset, means something didn’t go – right; and their feelings are telling them – that. (Not what you wanted to hear or feel, right? Who does?)

The remaining 10% is a mix of people who can’t and won’t be happy no matter how smooth something went, or their expectations were too unrealistic from the very beginning. The remainder is for a few brave souls – who have been telling others (all along) that there is something not lining up correctly; but no one is listening to that feedback…So, they’re upset about themselves and everyone else along the line – because they can see and feel the pain of – what’s happening or about to happen. (That’s where ANY hurt is coming from…Pain is on the way. And that’s exactly what those negative feelings are literally here – to tell you. That’s why we have them. It's the same when something is working out, too...We feel good about what's happening, or about to happen.)

So, yeah; there is a lot more than you "think" behind your logistics process.

If everyone is genuinely happy about the results and they can duplicate them; leave that process – alone. It and everyone else along the line are doing – what’s needed and required.

So, if you need an adjustment to what’s there – at what stop along the way, and why?

It’s usually not a specific person in a chain – that’s “the” problem. If so, that person would be written up, or they are going to leave that position eventually (on their own) from not being able to complete the circle. Other than a few timing or raw supply issues, the only wrench in the system if it’s not being shortchanged is going to be a customer or someone in charge – who’s asking for too much, too soon. (And, in my experience it’s usually this. And that will do far more damage than a few bruised apples. Wanting too much, too soon puts a damper on every part of the process and what show up.

If you really want to save the day and your job and maybe someone else’s…Tell your supervisor calmly and politely…Look, we’re doing the best we can under these timelines with the help and supplies we have. If your supervisors are having trouble – succeeding…It’s the expectations. Tell them what you think you need to be able to deliver those goods – right on time repeatedly, and as expected.

Otherwise, everyone including the “big-wigs” and the CEO are going to be losing money, customers and their patience over and over, again. Feedback here – isn’t for good feelings – yet; until the solution or the system is working. Then, everyone can have a ball! When something isn’t connecting – the biggest have to see and feel their part in the equation – for themselves.

Otherwise, it’s a big bowl of disappointment and lost revenue for everyone – repeatedly. Now, would you rather have the truth to be able to fix the equation…Or, would you rather keep hitting the same painful wall? When it’s your emotions and your money we’re talking about…I’m going to speak up for that – every single time…I would be THE asshole in the room – if I didn’t.

Do you see how we can positively reframe a critique now?

…It’s always been – for your benefit and everyone else’s, too. It just has to be done with respect; and that’s it. If the respect is there, people will listen. If not – you’ve already built a wall in front of the right message, between you – and everyone else.

If money, time, energy and happy customers are all wrapped into your bottom line…You’ve got no time to duck and cover. Step up – and be the example. But hey…If you’re comfortable losing millions or your position of esteem – be my guest. Any “wrong” is only adjusted – so positive emotions, and the money behind them – can keep on coming in.

See a problem in the chain from this angle…And you bet your joy and the money – will be found in your hands, and in everyone else’s, too.

You can be upset with me now – for being the messenger; but when you see that my approach to this works better than almost anything you’ve got so far, on all sides…

You can thank me tomorrow!

When that shipment arrives right on time – for everyone along the line; just so that you can repeat it all over again, and watch the bucks and the smiles come in and rule the day… That’s exactly where you wanted to be, right?

Understand your part, first – and how that links right up to someone else – and you’ll figure it out. And, if you can’t talk to the one at the top – send them to my article. They can blame me, instead. (I’ll gladly take the blame if – it fixes your problem…Happy to be the one to do it!)

A train, boat, a truck, or a person on foot…Needs a clear passageway, an open entrance and exit to deliver those goods…So, open up a bit; and the solution will be right there with you.

Hey…I told you…Your Emotions ARE the real bookends of this entire process. And I’m so glad you listened to what your feelings and your feedback was telling you…

Feelings were always – for you…Both sides of them. They were always pointing to what’s right. And, realizing that alone – is a huge development in having success.

Being realistic…Allows you – to get exactly what you want, almost every single time. The positive feelings you’ll have here – is also bringing in in the biggest bottom line repeatedly, as well. With knowing that, you’ll easily make the changes necessary inside and out, so that what you want most of all – comes right back to you.

Now that you’ve remembered what this reverse engineering was for, you'll see what was in that adjustment, all along…

We do everything – just to feel good about it: Before, during, and after – and that’s it!

-J.

To be continued...The book is slated for a 2026 Summer release.
